Dr Kia Vahland is jury spokesperson 2021

During their first joint meeting, the members of the jury appointed Dr Kia Vahland (Süddeutsche Zeitung) as their spokesperson. Dr Vahland already held the role of spokesperson in the 2020 prize year, which was cut short prematurely due to the coronavirus pandemic. The other members of the jury are: Dr Klaus Kowalke (“Lessing & Kompanie” bookstore), Tania Martini (die tageszeitung), Dr Jeanne Rubner (Bayerischer Rundfunk), Denis Scheck (ARD), Hilal Sezgin (independent author) and Prof Dr Barbara Stollberg-Rilinger (Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin – Berlin Institute for Advanced Study).

The jury will select the winning title through a two-stage process: The jurors will compile a list of nominations comprising eight titles, which will be announced on 6 April 2021. From this selection, they will then choose the non-fiction book of the year. The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on 14 June 2021.
